Aaron Smith is a painter living in Los Angeles and teaches painting at Art Center College of Design as an Associate Professor and the Associate Chair of his department. His work explores masculine archetypes: “I’m inspired by the playful relationship many men have today with their own presentation; borrowing freely from the past. Subcultures like Dandyism, Bear Culture, Freak Folk, Beard and Mustache enthusiast, exaggerate masculine archetypes. I use expressionist color and brushwork to celebrate these figure’s vitality, and to offset the often stoic poses.” (interview with artist by ARTchipel Aug-2011)
